Kansas lawmakers will head back to Topeka in January for their regular session, but they are also going to the state capital a lot sooner than that.
Lawmakers have a special session beginning Monday, and the overall focus is coronavirus response. Two items specifically will be discussed: providing unemployment insurance for any Kansas resident fired for refusing vaccinations and strengthening medical or religious exemptions to make sure those are granted if requested.
The special session, announced earlier this month, follows a vote from the Kansas Special Joint Committee on Government Overreach to promote the extra session.
