A second study is now underway to gauge the need for improving broadband access and quality.
The University of Kansas Institute for Policy and Social Research has an online survey designed to find gaps in internet service which keep people from accessing online education, health care and other needed services.

This follows an effort by Lyon County to expand broadband service countywide in an effort to become the first county in the United States with that availability. That effort, which started with an internet speed test this past spring and summer as part of the “Fiber to the Home” initiative, has been on hold since mid-summer as the state has gotten involved in the research process. Lyon County could take advantage of a $30 million pool of federal money for a broadband build-out if everything falls into place.
