Two defendants in the Jesus Avila murder case were connected to a hearing Wednesday in Lyon County District Court, but they were not the focus of the hearing.
Neither Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde nor Armando Nunez attended the hearing, which actually was focused on an alleged witness, Daniel Arteaga, who failed to appear at preliminary hearings earlier this month and was subsequently found in contempt of court.
Avila’s body was found in a burned-out car near Emporia in September 2017.
Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and other charges in Avila’s death. Nunez faces charges of arson, aggravated robbery and interference with law enforcement. Both have pretrial and arraignment hearings Dec. 3. Both may also find out their potential trial dates at those hearings.
