A traffic stop at the Interstate 35 Melvern exit allegedly led to the seizure of nearly 200 pounds of marijuana Wednesday.
Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells says the traffic stop took place shortly after 2 pm at I-35 mile marker 160, 33 miles northeast of Emporia. Deputies reported finding narcotics and allegedly seized 185 pounds of pot.
The vehicle’s driver, 40-year-old Bounmy Phongsavat of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was arrested and booked into the Osage County Jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Formal charges are pending.
