The holiday shopping season is off to a different start — of sorts — than past years.
For the past decade, the trend has been building where larger retailers locally and nationwide have opened Thanksgiving evening and closed late Thanksgiving night before reopening for Black Friday. That trend is over, at least for this year, as those retailers have decided to stay closed throughout Thanksgiving before opening dark and early Friday morning.
Several larger retailers have indicated the change back to the more traditional Black Friday sales format will be permanent. Others have not made that announcement.
