Local businesses report a robust opening to the holiday shopping season.
Retailers have been targeting the traditional Black Friday-Small Business Saturday shopping events for months, but in the case of Trox Gallery and Gifts, there is another reason for the strong start. Owner Kaila Mock explains:
Bluestem Farm and Ranch manager Brian Wendling says the good start is key for retailers, in part because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in part because of the general impact when shoppers stay local.
Waters Hardware manager Lucas Hockenbury was impressed by the early start.
Brown’s Shoe Fit manager Aaron Otto saw similar activity both Friday and Saturday. He says the weekend directly after Thanksgiving is always big.
Traditional shopping discounts go largely online with Cyber Monday, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is alerting people about a new holiday shopping toolkit, courtesy of the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center. The online tool has information to help shoppers protect themselves from substandard or hazardous counterfeit items like cosmetics, electronics and toys. It also includes tips for online shopping, information about protecting financial or banking information, as well as videos and infographics. Click here for the link.
