The Olpe Eagles are state champions once again after defeating Inman 35-6 in the 1A state title game in Hays Saturday.
The Eagles took the momentum early after Junior Garett Cole capped off a 63-yard scoring drive with a four-yard touchdown run. The Eagles scored twice more and gave up just one touchdown to take a 21-6 lead into the locker room.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Eagles would seal the win with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter including a three-yard rush by Cole and a 57-yard run by senior Derek Hoelting. Hoelting ended the day with 154 yards of total offense and one touchdown.
Cole 36 yards of total offense with three touchdowns and senior quarterback Damon Redeker ended the day with 200 total yards and one rushing touchdown.
Cole says the victory was an all-around team effort, however, their defense made a major difference.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt says he couldn’t be prouder of his team especially their outgoing senior leadership.
The Eagles finish the season 12-0.
