The Oklahoma man accused of stealing fuel from a state truck before leading a chase in and around Emporia a few weeks ago is tentatively set for a hearing in Lyon County District Court — but court proceedings in Oklahoma could well revise that schedule.
Locally, 43-year-old Jerry Ray Brown is accused of single counts of felony flee and elude, felony obstruction of law enforcement, felony criminal damage and misdemeanor theft. He’s tentatively set for a preliminary hearing at 2:30 pm Thursday in front of Judge Doug Jones.
Brown has been transferred to Oklahoma and is still awaiting trial on charges of robbing two banks last year. Information from the federal court system indicates a hearing originally set for this upcoming Friday has been canceled, with a motion and pretrial hearing now set for 9:30 am Wednesday.
Brown also was set for a preliminary hearing on state charges last month in Tulsa after allegedly embezzling over $70,000 from a 2019 house remodeling contract. With Brown still in jail locally at the time of that hearing, the only hearing scheduled in the embezzlement case is a bond forfeiture review on Feb. 15.
