After a federal court put a halt to one aspect of President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, a second federal court is doing likewise for another aspect of the mandate.
The US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri has issued a temporary injunction on the mandate affecting healthcare facilities. The directive mandated healthcare employees, volunteers and contractors to be vaccinated against the virus as a condition of employment.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt joined nine other state attorneys general in filing suit against this aspect of the overall mandate, saying a number of nursing homes, hospitals and other health-based facilities could close because of the federal guidance.
This follows an injunction from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals stopping the mandate for businesses with at least 100 workers. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is suspending implementation and enforcement of that mandate component until further notice.
