Match Day didn’t just break the previous fundraising record.
The eighth annual fundraiser shattered the prior mark set just last year by gathering over $455,000 — well above the $322,000, which was last year’s record.
Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg has called Match Day the foundation’s gift to the area, and she says it’s one the Community Foundation is proud to organize.
The top fundraising group this year: Team Schnak Strong, which gathered almost $66,000 — an individual group record — and nearly $21,000 more than last year’s prior individual group record.
Pioneer Bluffs generated over $35,000 last year and went over $50,000 this year, causing a double-take from Director Lynn Smith.
North Lyon County Youth Association, which raised over $20,000. Board Vice President Kiley DeDonder says Match Day and its impact is “powerful.”

The Emporia Community Foundation’s annual Match Day reset the fundraising record book in a big way.
As a whole, Match Day produced $455,703.46, more than $133,000 above last year’s prior record.
Individually, most of the 21 returning groups raised amounts significantly higher than they did last year, and the four first-time groups generated between $4,500-over $17,000. The top fundraising group this year: Team Schnak Strong, which gathered almost $66,000 — an individual group record — and nearly $21,000 more than last year’s prior individual group record.
Totals were announced at Flinthills Mall and aired live on KVOE and KVOE.com on Tuesday.
Over the course of Match Day’s eight-year history, the event has generated almost $1.9 million to benefit 39 nonprofits in Lyon and surrounding counties.
