The Garate family and local residents will be shining a light of hope and positivity in downtown Emporia this upcoming weekend.
The third annual AceItUp Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place at White Park, located at 6th and Merchant, Sunday evening. Along with the lighting itself, activities will include caroling, a toy drive and a gingerbread house competition.
The event is held in memory of Ace Garate who passed away back in 2019 after a vehicle accident in Branson, MO. Ace’s mother Amy Garate says this was her son’s favorite time of the year and he was always dedicated to helping others in need.
She says she hopes the event will inspire the same love of giving and charity in the hearts of others.
Activities will begin at 6 pm and residents are invited to stop by or drive by and bring donations of toys, gift cards or money to support St. Francis Ministries and the foster children they serve during the holiday season.
KVOE will broadcast live from the tree lighting ceremony on KVOE 1400 am, 96.9 fm, Country 101.7 and Mix 104.9.
