In case you weren’t paying attention, Lyon County Public Health did not release any new coronavirus information Wednesday. And it won’t until Friday.
Public Health is purposefully moving away from its longstanding practice of three data releases per week. Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says the agency is both planning for and transitioning into the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, so it needed to look at how best to use its staffing and resources to best serve the public. Shifting from three reports to one was a way to achieve that goal.
Public Health had used daily reports for months after the start of the pandemic in March 2020. It shifted to the three weekly reports in November 2020. Stats will be released every Friday until further notice.
Lyon County currently has 5,942 total cases since the pandemic started. There are currently 107 active cases, including 23 breakthroughs involving fully vaccinated residents. Ninety-two people have died.
Millbern will have an update on Lyon County’s COVID-19 situation on KVOE’s 7:15 am Newsmaker segment Thursday.
