Local temperatures re-wrote several columns in the record books for Emporia Thursday.
The previous daily high record for Dec. 2 of 72 degrees was all but smashed when highs hit 79 degrees by mid-afternoon. The previous record, according to the National Weather Service, was set back in 2001.
Additionally, Thursday’s temperatures also exceeded the all-time high for the month of December in Emporia which, before Thursday, stood at 74 degrees on Dec. 5 2011.
This is the second record high temperature this week for Emporia. Monday’s high of 77 topped the previous record of 74 degrees back in 1998 for Nov. 29.
