The Oklahoma man accused of stealing fuel from a state truck before leading a chase in and around Emporia a few weeks ago will likely see his local court proceedings delayed with two sets of court activity ongoing in his home state.
Jerry Ray Brown, 43, had a hearing in federal court in Oklahoma on Wednesday, in part to set Brown’s legal representation and in part to set the court schedule for his federal trial on bank robbery charges after two banks were robbed last year. The next motions hearing is Feb. 22. Jury trial in that case is set to begin March 21.
Brown is also working through an Oklahoma docket on state charges after allegedly embezzling over $70,000 from a 2019 house remodeling contract. Hearings in that case are set for next year.
Brown was set for a preliminary hearing Thursday in Lyon County District Court on single counts of felony flee and elude, felony obstruction of law enforcement, felony criminal damage and misdemeanor theft after allegedly taking fuel from a Kansas Department of Transportation truck before the alleged chase.
