The Emporia State mens basketball team opened MIAA play with an 81-70 win over Nebraska Kearney last night.
The Hornets overcame a 10 point deficit to rally for the win.
Coach Craig Doty said it came down to playing better defense in the 2nd half.
Tray Buchanan scored 23 of his 24 points in the second half.
Jumah’Ri Turner finished with 18 points and Mayuom Buom finished with 16 points.
The Emporia State men improve to 6-1 for the season and 1-0 in the MIAA.
Nebraska Kearney won the women’s game 59-58.
Kearney used a 10-1 run to close out the final 5 minutes of the game to rally for the win.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn called it a very frustrating loss.
The 21st ranked Lopers led for only 1:56.
Tre’Zure Jobe was the only Lady Hornet to score in double-figures finishing with 20 points.
The Lady Hornets are now 5-2 for the season and 0-1 in the MIAA.
Both the women and men host Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon.
