Potential trial dates for two suspects in the Jesus Avila murder case won’t be announced now until next year.
Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde and Armando Nunez had been set for pretrial and arraignment hearings at 2 pm Friday. Both have been delayed to 2 pm Jan. 13.
Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and other charges in Avila’s death in September 2017, while Nunez faces charges of arson, aggravated robbery and interference with law enforcement.
Avila’s body was found in a burned-out car near Emporia. Testimony during preliminary hearings last month indicated Avila was shot twice in the head.
