For the 86th consecutive year, USD 253 Emporia Schools will present its Seasonal Celebration to the local community this week.
The program will be held both Wednesday and Thursday evenings and will feature vocal and instrumental performances by Emporia High School and Emporia Middle School students. This year’s program will return to its traditional home inside of White Auditorium after COVID-19 forced administrators to shift the concert to a virtual format last year.
Emporia High School Choir Director Sarah Bays says they could not be more excited to be back to normal.
Band Director Bob Haselhuhn says they will have many of the classic holiday selections that residents have come to expect as part of the program throughout the years with a few new additions as well.
Bays says the vocal selections for this year’s programs will also be a mix of classic holiday pieces with some new additions including the Seasonal Celebration debut of “Adoration of the Magi” performed by the EHS Chorale.
The Seasonal Celebration will start at 7 pm both nights with doors opening at 6 pm. Sign language interpreters will be at the program both nights and there will be a section reserved for the hearing impaired.
Admission is $3 at the door for school-age children and adults. Preschool children and younger will get in free. Flash photography will not be allowed during the performances.
