Two Emporians were hurt and hospitalized after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia early Friday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by 75-year-old Alejandro Lopez of Emporia and a box truck driven by 41-year-old Mohammed Aljboree collided near mile marker 120, seven miles southwest of Emporia, shortly before 2:45 am. The investigation indicates Lopez tried to turn through a break in the center barrier wall and was broadsided by the box truck.
Lopez and a passenger, 76-year-old Thanh Do, were both taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Aljboree was not hurt. Aljboree was wearing his seatbealt at time of impact. Neither Lopez nor Do were wearing their seatbelts.
