An Emporia man was taken to Newman Regional Health following an injury accident in town Friday afternoon.
Emporia Police and EMS were called to the intersection of Sixth Ave. and Commercial in central Emporia for a reported injury crash shortly before 1 pm. According to Emporia Police Sgt. Timothy Wacker, a 2006 Nissan Titan, driven by Bernard Jefferson of Emporia, was traveling southbound on Commercial and was preparing to turn left onto Sixth Ave.
At that time, Jefferson suffered an undisclosed “medical emergency” and failed to negotiate the turn. A passenger in the vehicle tried to navigate the turn but could not prevent the vehicle from striking a stopped westbound passenger car.
The vehicle then continued across the lanes of travel and struck a pole on the sidewalk before coming to a stop. Jefferson was transported to Newman Regional Health for possible treatment as a result of the medical emergency.
No other injuries were reported.
