The Emporia High girls basketball team won a defensive battle with Topeka Seaman Friday night 32-27.
The Lady Spartans trailed 7-4 at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied at 10 at halftime.
In the 2nd half, Emporia High outscored Seaman 22-17 to earn the win.
Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey was happy to earn the win.
Gracie Gilpin led Emporia High in scoring with 15 points.
The Lady Spartans are now 2-1 to start the season.
Topeka Seaman won the boys game 72-52. The Emporia High boys fell behind early trailing 22-12 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 38-18 at halftime. The Spartans put together a better 2nd half with both teams scoring 34 points.
Emporia High Coach Beau Welch called it the best effort of the young season.
Jacob Ortega led Emporia High in scoring with 13 points. Parker Leeds finished with 12 points.
Both the Emporia High girls and boys will host Topeka High Tuesday night.
