An 18 plus month layoff didn’t have any effect on the Emporia Municipal Band as it made a grand return to the general public Saturday.
The band hosted its annual Christmas Concert inside the Granada Theatre after having to cancel the entirety of its 2020 season and its 2021 summer season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following Saturday’s concert, Band Director James Davis spoke with KVOE News and says it felt amazing to be back together and in front of an audience.
Davis believes that isolation in the early days of the pandemic, followed by over a year of no practices actually drew the band closer together as he says their members continuously went the “extra step” to reach out and stay connected with one another.
