The name may have changed, but support for the annual Emporia Neighborhood Toy Drop has not.
The 38th annual charity drive benefiting the Salvation Army of Emporia and SOS Inc. took place at 1830 Hillcrest Drive through the evening hours Saturday. Beginning over three decades ago as the De Lane Drive Toy Drop, the local holiday tradition has continuously grown to encompass more neighborhoods in recent years and even saw the addition of Arrowhead Drive this year.
Organizer Marlo Walburn says the continued growth of the toy drop was what led to the name change this year.
As always, the local neighborhood was hard to miss as nearly every house was lit up bright with decorations and Christmas lights to welcome in generous donors. Donations of new toys, bikes and monetary gifts were collected through the evening.
Saturday’s drive saw a total of 31 bags of toys, six new bikes and $812 in donations collected. all toy donations will be given to the Salavation Army of Emporia withe monetary donations going to SOS.
