Lyon County deputies arrested an Emporia man after an alleged vehicle pursuit early Wednesday morning.
Deputy Eric Williams says a deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on a car in the 3200 block of West Highway 50 near Graphic Arts Road shortly after 12:30 am. The driver, later identified as 18-year-old Luis Rueda, allegedly failed to yield and took off to the east at speeds approaching 110 mph.
Rueda allegedly continued east at high speeds before trying unsuccessfully to turn south onto Chestnut, hitting a stop sign instead and running away from the crash site. Williams says there was a foot chase and a struggle before Rueda was taken into custody.
Rueda was taken to Newman Regional Health as a precautionary measure and was then jailed at the Lyon County Detention Center. Formal charges are currently pending.
