For the second straight year, teachers and support staffers across Lyon County will benefit from a generous donation through the EL and Z. Irene Hopkins Foundation.
The foundation is setting aside $50 gift certificates for every teacher and education support staffer in the county, including USD 253 Emporia, USD 251 North Lyon County, USD 252 Southern Lyon County, Sacred Heart and Emporia Christian School. Emporia Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder had details on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday:
Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright says teachers and staff do a lot extra under normal circumstances, and that has increased during the coronavirus pandemic.
North Lyon County Superintendent Bob Blair says it’s a small way — but an important way — to show gratitude.
Teachers and staff will get gift certificates from Emporia Main Street or the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, and all told over $67,000 is going to staffers as part of this program. In years past, the Hopkins Foundation has funded the Star Performer and WOW! Awards, which provided cash awards to teachers and support staffers. Before last year’s venture, the foundation shifted to provide grant funding for different projects organized by staff across the county.
