A report of a structure fire at a northwest Emporia business sent Emporia Fire out to respond Saturday morning, but no actual fire was noted.
Firefighters were toned out to Walmart, 2301 Industrial, shortly before 9:45 am. The early indications are an electrical issue developed in the grocery area, causing light smoke to develop, and Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage confirms an electrical wire under a refrigeration unit was to blame. There was no actual fire.
The area was isolated. The store was not evacuated, and in fact, a number of shoppers went inside the building as Emporia Fire investigated. No injuries were reported.
