The Emporia State mens basketball team jumped out to a 17-3 lead and never trailed on the way to a 72-60 win over Rogers State Monday.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said there were two big keys to the win.
Tray Buchanan led 3 Hornets in double figures with 23 points.
Jumah’Ri Turner added 18 points and joined the 1000 point club at Emporia State.
Mayuom Buom finished with 10 points.
With the win, the Hornets go into the Christmas break with a 9-3 record. They are 4-2 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women outscored Rogers State 88-74. The Lady Hornets outscored the Hillcats 27-15 as they made 8 three point shots in the 4th quarter to seal the win.
Lady Hornet Coach Toby Wynn was pleased with the effort.
Tre’Zure Jobe led Emporia State with 20 points. She was 1 of 4 players to score in double figures.
Karsen Schultz added 18 points, Fredricka Sheats finished with 15 points and Kali Martin scored 13 points.
The Emporia State women go into the Christmas break with an 8-4 record and 3-3 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State basketball teams return to action on January 1st when they play at Lincoln.
