Coffey County is benefiting from a rural housing development project through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.
Coffey County is receiving almost $250,000 to build three multi-family units in LeRoy. Coffey County Housing Authority Executive Director Ronda Gilbert says this will replace an old downtown building that fell down last year with a triplex. Construction could begin next spring.
The Coffey County total is among $2 million going to eight cities or counties to build affordable housing for moderate-income households. The funding is made possible through the state’s Moderate Income Housing program, which provides grants or loans to develop housing and homeownership in cities and counties with under 60,000 total population.
The awards announced Monday actually represent a total investment of over $20 million as well as a net gain of over 80 homes for rural areas statewide.
