Emporia Police say a semi hauling fish tipped while navigating the West Highway 50 roundabout Tuesday morning.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers were called to the roundabout shortly after 8:30 am after the incident was reported. The driver, 39-year-old Alien Vazquez-Moreno, was eastbound on Highway 50 and into the roundabout when the truck tipped onto its side.
The investigation continues, so it’s unclear whether speed or a load shift — or a combination of factors — were to blame for the incident. No injuries were reported. Eastbound traffic was blocked for around two hours while the truck was cleared from the site.
10 am Tuesday: West US Highway 50 roundabout traffic altered after semi tips over Tuesday
Emporia Police are directing traffic past a noninjury crash in west Emporia on Tuesday morning.
A semi tipped over onto its side as it was moving through the West Highway 50 roundabout. Traffic is moving around the roundabout as of 9:30 am, but eastbound traffic is currently closed so that traffic has to go north to either Interstate 35 or the Kansas Turnpike.
At this time, there is no word on why the semi tipped, its load or its destination. No injuries are being reported.
