Rhonda Staggs was sentenced Wednesday for her role in alleged animal cruelty in Hartford.
Staggs received one year of probation and an underlying prison term of a year in case she violates probation. She also cannot possess any animals during the probation period.
Staggs’ sentence is similar — but not identical — to the sentence her husband, Thomas, received earlier this month for his involvement in the case. Besides getting a year of probation, an underlying 12-month prison term and the mandate not to have animals during probation, Thomas Staggs also received 30 days of house arrest with the only exception being work-related travel.
Both were formally charged in May after Lyon County authorities and the private group Guardians of the Wolves removed 17 dogs from their property — allegedly after numerous complaints from town residents.
