Emporia Fire is investigating a house fire in central Emporia from early Friday morning.
Fire Capt. Willie Ward says crews were called to 509 Elm shortly after 12:30 am, finding light to moderate smoke coming out of the front door — even though the fire had already been extinguished, apparently through the work of the resident and a neighbor.
Firefighters ventilated smoke and carbon monoxide out of the house.
One person and three pets were inside at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The fire was seated in the kitchen. The cause is under investigation.
