The Emporia Solid Waste Department is gearing up for its busiest time of the year this coming week.
There will be no changes to the commercial trash pickup schedule this coming week, however, Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says they know there will be larger loads than normal. Senn says to help make the pickup a bit easier for Solid Waste crews, please be sure to place all garbage in a trash can or poly cart before placing it on the curb.
Additionally, if you are going to be out of town prior to your pickup, Senn asks that you place garbage on the curb before you leave so they will not have to make a second trip to collect your garbage. If you are planning to recycle any holiday wrapping paper, Senn encourages you to check the label before doing so.
As for Christmas trees, residents will be able to drop off their trees for pickup at three locations within Emporia including the Guion’s Showcase parking lot, the Lyon County Fairgrounds and Dillons beginning Monday through Jan. 3. If you are not able to drop your tree off to one of those three locations before that deadline, Senn says you can take your tree to the Lyon County Transfer Station at 3100 W. South Ave. year-round free of charge.
Senn asks that residents remove all ornaments and bags from trees before they drop them off. If you have additional questions or concerns call 620-340-6339.
