Residents traveling along Americus Road have likely noticed some work ongoing in the area.
Work began last week on a project to install a new sanitary sewer line on the west side of Americus Road between US Highway 50 and Road 180. The work comes in cooperation between the city of Emporia and Evergy as the two entities entered into an agreement roughly two years ago according to City Engineer Jim Ubert.
Ubert says the new line will benefit Evergy as it continues work to relocate its district service center to the area from its current home at 220 Mechanic. Ubert says the project will also have infrastructure-related benefits to the city.
Ubert says the project, weather permitting, should take three months to complete. During that time, Ubert tells residents to be prepared to stop when passing through the area and to be vigilant for workers in the roadway when traveling through the construction zone.
Additional traffic changes may include lane shifts and one-lane traffic throughout the project’s duration.
The project comes as road construction is in the late stages on US Highway 50 between Roads E-5 and F. The highway is being expanded from two lanes to four. Work could finish by the end of this year.
