Before Emporia Public Schools started its winter break, it announced plans to close the use of its district facilities to outside groups until further notice. The district has since announced a notable adjustment for certain Emporia teams and organizations.
USD 253 says teams and organizations wanting to use district facilities can use them for practice only and only if certain COVID protocol is followed:
*Coaches and players will be allowed in the district facility
*USD 253 mitigation policies are followed, including masking of all involved — coaches, parents dropping off children, team members and people in hallways to use restrooms — at all times unless actively practicing. Masks must be used by all when not participating in athletic activities. Social distancing must be used to the greatest extent possible
*Cleaning protocols are followed after the team or organization is done at the facility
*Only Kansas State High School Activities Association school-sponsored tournaments will be hosted by the district. No outside organization tournaments will be allowed
*No large gatherings of people will be allowed
