Active coronavirus cases saw a minor decrease in Lyon County Monday.
After well over a week of moderate to significant increases, active cases dropped from 211 to 207 between reporting periods. Of the 207 active cases, 46 are considered breakthroughs meaning infections in fully vaccinated residents.
To date, Lyon County Public Health has identified a total of 494 breakthrough cases.
The county’s overall case total rose from 6,519 to 6,596, an increase of 77 new cases between Wednesday and Monday.
Deaths remain at 97 with one case pending final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment while active hospitalizations dipped slightly from 8 to 7.
So far, there have been no cases of the omicron variant anywhere in the KVOE listening area and just 25 in Kansas.
Public Health will have a report Wednesday and won’t report again until Jan. 3 because of New Year’s Eve. Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern will have an update on the county’s response on Thursday’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am.
