As Family Promise of the Flint Hills closes out the year, Executive Director Jessica Corpening is working to expand partnerships and serve those in need locally.
Family Promise began serving the community in September after several years of organization, and Corpening says things have picked up since Thanksgiving.
Family Promise helps families with children ages 18 and younger by offering shelter and food. Family Promise also crates a case plan to help families through employment, budgets and long-term housing.
Because of COVID-19, the local operations model has adapted from the traditional model, where families stay in a church congregation for a week at a time as they utilize the other Family Promise services before getting into long-term housing.
Corpening says there are several focal points as we leave 2021 and welcome 2022. Family Promise would like to expand its long-term housing program, so grant-writing is underway to augment that program in addition to the immediate shelter program that’s now established. Family Promise also needs more volunteers to help with meals or snacks, and the organization is also reaching out to churches and hoteliers so it can meet the need.
