Sprinkles and light rain this morning may not deter another push close to a daily record high Tuesday — or a very high fire danger.
So far, the KVOE studios have received a trace of rainfall with intermittent light showers and sprinkles in the overnight hours. Cloud cover will thin out and we’ll have a high of 64, just under the record of 65 set in 1999.
The fire danger will be elevated as a cold front leads to a wind shift from southwest to northwest. Gusts could be as high as 25 mph, with relative humidity levels around 25 percent and not enough rainfall to affect grasses that have largely been dry for two months. Outdoor burns are strongly discouraged areawide Tuesday and will be banned in Emporia with winds above 15 mph.
