Olpe Fire Fighters managed to contain a controlled burn that became out of control near Olpe Wednesday morning.
According to Olpe Fire Chief Wade Schmidt, a controlled burn at 306 Road J became out of control and spread to some nearby trees. The landowner conducting the burn called for assistance with more water power to reach the tops of the trees.
Olpe, Fire District 4, Emporia’s rural fire unit and Fire District 5 were called to the scene, however, Districts 4 and 5 were canceled en route.
Schmidt says there was no reportable losses or damage with three large trees charred on the outside from the bottom up. No injuries were reported.
