Construction is on schedule as the Emporia Pavilions retail development moves into the new year.
Construction began in late August to expand the shopping area at 24th and Industrial and bring Marshall’s, Ross Dress for Less and Shoe Show alongside Hobby Lobby. Steel girders have been erected for Marshall’s and are ready to put in place for the other two.
Developer Spencer Thomson is still anticipating completion by early fall 2022, with the new stores opening shortly afterward. The expansion could mean 100 new jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue to benefit the city of Emporia, Lyon County and USD 253 Emporia.
Word on more new retail options at the Pavilions is pending and may be announced sometime in the first quarter or second quarter of 2022. Thomson is working to bring as many as three new businesses to the site as part of the next wave of construction. There are several pad sites on the south side of the property designed for restaurants, and those are actively being marketed.
