Two people were hurt, one possibly seriously, as part of a harrowing crash at highway speeds northeast of Emporia early Thursday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened in Osage County on the Kansas Turnpike near mile marker 164, better than 35 miles northeast of Emporia shortly after 3 am. The driver, 21-year-old Alaceyia Howard of Wichita, was southbound when her SUV went off the highway for unlisted reasons. Howard’s vehicle rolled several times and stopped in a fence line.
Howard suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment. Her passenger, 21-year-old Jacque Muscadin, hometown not listed, suffered apparently serious injuries and was also taken to Stormont-Vail. Howard was wearing her seatbelt while Muscadin was not.
