The Emporia State womens basketball team jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed on the way to a 79-47 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers Saturday afternoon. Coach Toby Wynns team held a 32-9 lead after the first quarter.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game-high 19 points to lead 4 players in double figures. Fredricka Sheats added 17 points, Karsen Schultz finished with 15 and Kali Martin scored 11 points. The Lady Hornets led by as many as 26 points in the 1st half and by 32 points in the 2nd half. With the win, the Emporia State women improve to 9-4 and 3-3.
The Emporia State men closed the game on a 17-7 run to outscore Lincoln 76-69. Coach Craig Doty said there were 2 keys to winning the game.
Tray Buchanan led the offense with a game-high 34 points. He said they made it hard.
Jumah’Ri Turner added 19 points. The game featured 16 lead changes and 3 ties. The Hornets took the lead for good with 6:19 to play on a basket by Tray Buchanan. The Hornets would convert 20-27 free throw attempts and made 8 three-point shots to help seal the win. The Emporia State men improve to 10-3 for the season and 5-2 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men are scheduled to play at Central Missouri Monday night.
