A man convicted of aggravated kidnapping and other charges related to an incident in September 2018 is starting a new appeal process.
William Anderson was originally convicted in April 2019 for his involvement in a case where a man was allegedly locked in a dog cage, threatened with knives, tattooed and had money taken from his bank account during a 24-to-30-hour incident in September 2018.
Anderson initially received over 34 years in prison for those crimes, but there was an error in calculating a prior conviction as it related to Anderson’s criminal score, according to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman. He was later resentenced to just over 32 years and, after asking unsuccessfully for a review by the Kansas Supreme Court this past summer, he was recently re-sentenced to 25.5 years in prison. He has appealed the new sentence. Word on upcoming hearing dates is pending.
Anderson was one of four people originally charged in connection with the case. The other defendants, Ivan Murillo, Stacy Steen and Brandon Villa, received far less lengthy sentences for their alleged involvement. Murillo received under four years in prison, while Steen received 12 years and Villa was sentenced to probation for attempted marijuana distribution instead of the original kidnapping count against him.
