Emporia’s new organization focused on reducing the local homeless youth population is officially up and running.
Bloom House Youth Services officially opened its doors on New Year’s Eve with a combination open house and New Year’s celebration for the general public. Bloom House’s goal was to be up and running by the end of 2021 and Vice President Jen Ogleby says she is very proud of the fact that they were able to meet that goal.
Bloom House serves as a “bridge” for youth from the Department of Children and Families to their next living arrangement according to Ogleby. Currently, Bloom House can house youth ages 16-18 for a period of 21-days.
During that time, Ogleby says Bloom House residents can take advantage of several therapeutic services and basic need services such as laundry, meals and shelter. Ogleby says it is hard for most people to understand how significant all of those services, especially basic needs such as access to laundry machines, can be for those in need.
Ogleby says once DCF gives approval, Bloom House will be able to house youths aged 14-18. Ogleby says it is important for Bloom House to be an inclusive shelter welcoming any and all youths that are in need.
Bloom House is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 organization that operates highly off of donations. Ogleby says they are still welcoming donations of food, clothing, hygiene products and other essential items. For more information contact Bloom House by calling 620-392-3055 or email bloomhouseks.org.
