The man accused of painting swastikas and other vandalism on several Emporia buildings last week is now into the court process.
Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman says 19-year-old Isaac Lawrence was formally charged with two felony counts of criminal damage and three of misdemeanor criminal damage. Lawrence is having his first appearance in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday afternoon. A preliminary hearing date is Feb. 9.
Lawrence was charged after alleged vandalism damage at several local buildings, including Emporia High, Emporia State’s Visser Hall, Casey’s West and Sonic last week, with Emporia Police making the arrest Dec. 29. Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas has said the early investigation process has indicated the alleged crimes were not hate-based or bias-based.
