A notable water line improvement project is taking place near Newman Regional Health beginning later this month.
City Clerk Kerry Sull says the city’s contractor will start the improvement process on West 12th between Grand and Chestnut the week of Jan. 17. The plan is to add a line that could range from 4 to 20 inches in diameter but will largely be 16 inches for most of the work zone.
Sull says there will be one-way traffic along West 12th at times during the project. There will also be signed detours and lane closures as well.
The project could take up to four months to complete, weather permitting. It follows two significant water main breaks in the construction zone last year, one outside the hospital in mid-March followed by one outside Emporia Christian School in mid-June.
