As Allen-Admire Fire Chief Tharon Mott continues his road to recovery following significant injuries sustained in the line of duty, he continues to receive a tremendous amount of support from his community and all of Lyon County.
The latest show of support came Saturday when hundreds came to the Admire Fire Department for a fundraising dinner in Mott’s honor. The dinner comes just three weeks after Mott returned from the hospital after being treated for injuries he sustained during a fall while fighting a fire at the former Hornet Pointe Apartment Complex at 1325 Merchant in Emporia on Dec. 12.
Mott returned home on Dec. 17 to a hero’s welcome which he says meant a great deal to him.
While speaking with KVOE News, Mott stated that his recovery is progressing well and he says doctors have noted that he is coming along faster than originally anticipated. That being said, Mott reports that he still has roughly six more weeks of physical therapy before he can return to work.
Saturday’s dinner was organized by members of the Admire community and Fire Department. While he is still limited in what he can do, Mott also pitched in with preparations for the event saying that it was only right to do his part considering how much everyone has done for him.
The evening’s activities included a meal featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, baked beans and beverages for a suggested donation of $7 with free-will donations accepted through the evening. A silent auction also took place with items such as a gun, custom fishing rod, photography sessions and half a processed beef all up for grabs.
Fundraising totals are currently pending. All proceeds will go to cover the cost of Mott’s medical expenses. Residents can also contribute by donating through a GoFundMe page which you can find a link for online with this story at KVOE.com.
