If you’re among the many residents looking for COVID-19 tests or to set up testing appointments, a change in federal policy may pique your interest.
Starting this weekend, private health insurers will have to cover up to eight home tests per month for people on their plans. The federal government’s plan will let residents either get home testing kits free of charge under insurance or get reimbursed. Under this plan, families of five people could receive up to 40 tests at no charge.
This new policy affects tests bought on or after Saturday until further notice.
Also, PCR and rapid tests would be fully covered by insurance — with no limits — if ordered or administered by health providers.
At-home COVID tests have been in extremely short supply through pharmacies and other retailers since the Christmas holiday as cases spike across the country.
