A nearly four-hour public hearing in Congress on the federal response to COVID-19 variants may well be remembered only for a hot mic comment from Dr. Anthony Fauci apparently aimed at Kansas US Senator Roger Marshall.
Fauci and Marshall had two tense exchanges during the hearing Tuesday. The first dealt in part with Marshall’s accusation Fauci funded so-called gain-of-function research in China, a claim Fauci vehemently denies. The second exchange dealt with Fauci’s salary being public record — something Marshall says he can’t find.
That led to a hot-mic moment from Fauci as Kansas US Senator Jerry Moran was set to ask questions.
Fauci hasn’t commented. Marshall says the exchange “may have alleviated the stress of the least trusted bureaucrat in America.”
