The Emporia High basketball teams split their doubleheader against Topeka West on Tuesday.
The Lady Spartans defeated Topeka West 55-26, using a 24-7 first quarter to both set the tone and build an insurmountable lead early. Having said that, head coach Carolyn Dorsey wasn’t totally pleased with how the game started.
Gracie Gilpin led the Lady Spartans with 17 points, while Rebecca Snider scored 12 and Riley Peak had a career-high 10 points for Emporia.
The Lady Spartans are now 6-2 for the season.
Meanwhile, the Emporia High boys fell to 0-8 on the season with a 71-57 loss. Head coach Beau Welch lamented the second quarter, where Topeka West outscored the Spartans 20-6.
Parker Leeds and River Peters each had 20 points. Cooper Rech added 12.
Both teams are set to play at Topeka Hayden on Friday.
