Lyon County District Court is set to be a busy place Thursday and Friday.
Pretrial and arraignment hearings are coming Thursday for Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde and Armando Nunez, both accused of involvement in the 2017 murder of Jesus Avila. Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and other charges, while Nunez is charged with aggravated robbery, arson, interference with law enforcement and theft. Hearings are listed separately on the Lyon County docket at 2 pm.
Also coming at 2 pm Thursday is a pretrial and arraignment hearing for Brice Obermeyer, charged with rape after an alleged incident with a person in their early 50s from last summer. Obermeyer is also facing charges of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated burglary, lewd and lascivious conduct, criminal restraint and stalking.
Friday’s docket involves sentencings in two cases.
At 1:30 pm, Alex Alexander will be sentenced on single counts of battery, arson and domestic violence. Alexander had been accused of child sexual exploitation and aggravated victim intimidation, but a jury found him not guilty during trial in late October.
At 3 pm, Mariel Ascencio, initially listed by Lyon County District Court as Mariel Martin, is set for sentencing for single counts of felon in possession of a firearm and heroin possession. Ascencio was first charged with nine counts as part of a case that law enforcement said included a stolen car from Wichita, stolen guns from Nebraska, illegal driver’s licenses and Social Security cards and illegal drugs.
