Jury trial dates have been set for two of the suspects in the 2017 murder of Emporian Jesus Avila.
Trial dates were set during preliminary and arraignment proceedings inside Lyon County District Court Thursday for Jordy Cornejo Campoverde and Armando Nunez. Cornejo Campoverde is set to begin trial on May 2 with proceedings lasting approximately three weeks.
Nunez was also set for trial to begin on May 2 as a backup date while a prime trial date was set for Jun. 13 with proceedings lasting approximately two weeks.
Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and other charges, while Nunez is charged with aggravated robbery, arson, interference with law enforcement and theft in the 2017 murder of Avila.
Hearings for two other defendants, Andrew Granado and Jovan Pecina, were rescheduled to 2 pm Friday, Jan. 21 where both individuals could potentially learn their trial dates. The most recently charged defendant in the case, Samuel Garcia, has a motions hearing set for Feb. 22 as prosecutors work to certify him as an adult.
The sixth suspect in the case Alan Alanis has a motions hearing scheduled for Jan. 24.
